Mighty Alchemy of the 21 Taras

Updated: Jul 28

The world we live in today is weighed down by calamities (fire, wind, and water), mental disruptions, chaos politics, and rampant violence – particularly violence against women and children. These manifestations of ignorance (avidya) are poisons that have to be addressed at the subtle, root level of consciousness.

Such needed ‘elixir’ can only be shaped spiritually through the combined cultivation of daily mantric practise, conscious action, energetic discernment, and heartfelt devotion. This very practice of anchoring wisdom compassion brings about healing to the self as much as it overflows to nourish those around us, the land we inhabit, along with the natural elements and subtle forces.

Tara, the Mother of Buddhas, is also known as the ‘Swift Protectress’ (Nyurma Pamo) – Her wisdom compassion of transforming negativity and removing obstacles is further expressed in Her unique 21 divine manifestations, as the 21 Taras. Each form is a specific energy meant to support, guide, and heal the various complex layers of un-consciousness in the world and the human body-mind.

NOBLE GREEN TARA & THE 5 WHITE TARAS

In the 1st Mandala, pertaining to Peace and Mind Awakening, you will study and connect first and foremost with Noble Green Tara (Arya Tara). While this is by no means an empowerment ceremony, you can choose to take on the outer form of Green Tara invocation and contemplation. This is the heart of this offering, followed by weekly study on ‘Conquering the 8 Great Fears’.

A deep dive into the 10-syllable mantra of Tara, OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SOHA, this 7-week contemplation program is formulated around the 5 White Taras from the Nyingma tradition, each with their own healing contemplation and simple practise for the week.

Each weekly session consists of:

  • An introduction to one unique form of Tara (see below)

  • Studying one of the ‘8 Great Fears’

  • A special guided meditation relating to that Tara

  • Contemplating the unfoldment of that week

Additionally, throughout this duration you are also encouraged to take on the Tara mantra practise of 1 to 3 mala a day (to be advised based on your level of familiarity).
