Shame

Anything you have gone through, or are still going through, that you are not allowed to express — there is shame.

Anything that affects you but you have to hide or keep under wraps — there is shame.

All that you were told was taboo, should not be discussed. There is shame.

The need to stay in the shadows is the hallmark of this energy. Shame. The false security of secrecy. But security against what?

“What would others say?”

“People would think this or that. They would not understand.”

“What would my family think?”

What others say or do is never within our control. The question is…

Which parts of you secretly agrees with those ‘whispers’ too?

Shame obscures healing. Shame binds the karmic fruit into growing again. Shame disallows the light of resolution to enter. Shame is the bitter torch passed from one generation to another, the historic ‘curse’ destined to manifest again.

Know this too:

When we swallow our heart’s words and bite our tongues in order to ‘keep the peace’, we are acting-out the belief that the Divine does not support us, that the Divine might abandon us, that the Divine is conditional in its love. And we do not trust the Divine, and so this is how we shall handle our pain — by secrecy.

So, how to heal? A very difficult choice needs to be made.

Shame withers when it sees the light. Shame, like any wound, can only heal when there is oxygen from openness and acceptance. When we set things free so that our lungs may breathe again, free from the weight of secrecy, then shame may leave us too.

The time we speak is the time we may heal. When we speak of our deepest vulnerabilities and personal truths (to those who honor our trust), we also surrender to the light.

That is what the wise ones mean when they say: “The Truth will set you free.”

May we step into an age where taboos will no longer be needed, a time when it is simply safe to desire healing, openness, and wholeness… we have held on to shame for far too long.

Now, it’s time to let go, and be free.
