She Who Arises From Fire

Some years ago, I had a dream:

I was walking on a huge marble bridge, surrounded by soft clouds of pink and golden hues… everywhere I looked there were clouds.

At the end of the bridge was a huge statue of Durga — perhaps 10 storeys tall — and I stood at Her feet. Behind Her, was Her vahana, the Lion.

But then I realized the Lion was breathing, barely moving but it was alive. They were not statues at all! Durga was alive, looking down upon me. But She was still, barely moving, except for Her eyes. She spoke to me in my mind, Her voice clear as day. I cannot remember the actual words, but the feeling of “I understand” remains.

I had forgotten about this dream but I dreamt it again when I was in the mountains. On the third day of Navaratri, in my slumber I was back at the great marble bridge. And She showed me how the mountain itself was Her Body, and that now we were all resting — and entering Tapasya — upon Her literal form.

That all the sharp jagged Himalayan peaks surrounding us were Spiritual Fire.

And the following day, during satsang, our Teacher spoke on Sthira Shakti, to be as steadfast and unwavering as the mountain before we may even hope to be taken by the leela of Devi… I was so moved I almost wept.

At once, I saw and I felt and I understood Her message. I was so shaken by the blooming realization that I knew my body would soon enter a deep purification. As the pranamayakosha expands, the annamayakosha must unravel.

And it would, 2 days later, as I stepped deeper in Tapasya (all the Fire Pujas were more than symbolic)

Durga, She Who Arises From Fire

This photo was taken at the Kali Temple next to the Shanidham. Funny I actually don’t remember praying by myself here… I remember being with at least a few people from the group. So I don’t know how my Teacher caught a picture of this.

I must have been reflecting on the ashes of the fire pit before me. One day too, my time will come to return my physical form to Kali, Great Mother of Time.

Om Kreem Kalikaye Namaha.
