The Fire of Anger

Some insightful reminders from yesterday’s client consultation:

Anger is a great protector and teacher.

It tells us where our boundaries have been breached; where our energies have been drained or taken for granted. It brings to urgent attention to something that didn’t sit right.

Anger tells us, “I need to address this. This is important to me.”

Anger is a protector, too. It gives us the fire to take action, the burst of power to either fix the energy-breach — or even combat an intrusion.

Anger may also be protecting a deep hurt, until one is ready with the tools and awareness of dealing and healing that hurt.

In Tantra, each of the gods and goddesses have two forms, a ‘saumya’ (gentle, beautiful) form, as well as an ‘ugra’ (fierce, scary) form.

Many of the Ugra forms embody the energy of Sacred Rage, where the immense Fire of passion, wrath, and desire is transformed and channeled into a means of destroying limitation, challenging the shadow of ignorance, and to vanquish all (inner) demons.

When we learn to take responsibility for our anger, and bring compassionate awareness to it, to see what’s beneath it — we allow ourselves to heal and grow. And through deeper cultivation and sadhana, many have mastered the means of redirecting that same fiery energy to create breakthroughs, spiritual transformation, and catalysts for great change in the world.

Fire is the most powerful of all the elements, and only the wise and masterful can hope to harness its infinite gifts.
